The Cereal Boss Babe - A Scoop of Roanna's Life
One look at Roanna’s Instagram feed and you may assume she does beauty content full time. You will be surprised to find out that Roanna actually has a full-time day job - a marketer working in a travel trade exhibition company, and it’s her passion to share the latest beauty, fashion and occasionally travel trends that keeps her steady flow of content.
Before we delve deeper, if you’re wondering how to pronounce Roanna’s name, it’s similar to Joanna, with the “J” replaced by an “R”. Roanna is a huge fan of anything artsy fartsy. She used to run an online store specialising in handmade jewelry. Fast forward many years now, she expresses her ideas and creativity in the form of makeup swatches (see #ParadeofSwatches on Instagram and you’ll know what we mean!), and other beauty-related content on @paradeoflove.
We also asked Roanna some personal questions to have a scoop of what goes on behind what we see on her Instagram, where she shares how she emerged stronger despite her dark childhood. Thank you for the genuine sharing Roanna, and we hope all of you reading this would be inspired and encouraged too :)
Q: What inspires / motivates you?
A: Since I was a kid, I’ve been living by this quote, “To get the rainbow, you must first endure the rain.” I’m a true believer of working hard for things in life. I wasn’t born in a well-to-do family, but I’ve always wanted much more than I could afford. Hence, I’ve learnt to toil and work doubly hard in order to fulfil my desires. My motivation to work hard stems from wanting to provide myself with a finer life without needing to rely on others.
Q: If you could find out one thing about your future self, what would you want to know?
A: I would want to know if I’m still happy. Simple as it may be, to me, there’s no point in knowing whether I’ll be rich or if I married well if I’m not happy. The decisions I make now impact my state of mind a few years down the road, so if I know that my future self is happy and contented, I would know I’ve been making the right decisions now. :)
Q: Tell us more about how you coped with a hurtful experience and emerged stronger.
A: Truth be told, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon, nor in a normal, healthy, functional family that one would assume I did. My childhood was one that many do not know about because it is the part of me that I’ve always wanted to bury most of my life. I was in an abusive environment for the most part, and that was painful (I mean really painful). Through the experiences I’ve had, I’ve learnt to stand up, fend for myself (because if you don’t, who would?) and walk away from the negativity. I am now stronger, more confident and more resilient, hadn’t it been for the hurtful past I’ve gone through.
Q: What are your favourite skincare brands and why?
A: My favourite skincare brands are Fresh Beauty, Drunk Elephant and Estee Lauder.
When it comes to clean skincare, Drunk Elephant immediately comes into mind. Drunk Elephant is no-nonsense with its ingredients and the efficacy of its products. I especially love the Slaai Makeup Melting Butter Cleanser and Protini Polypeptide Cream.
I cannot live without masks and Fresh Beauty does really good and effective ones like my all-time favourite - Umbrian Clay Pore Mattifying and Purifying Face Mask. It purifies the skin and removes gunk to reveal baby-like skin!
Personally, I feel that bedtime skincare is more important, as our skin works to repair itself while we rest. Nobody does night skincare better than Estee Lauder! My absolute holy grail is the Advanced Night Repair Serum – it’s the potion you need for a radiant healthy glow on your skin in the morning.
We genuinely hope you were inspired by how Roanna stood up for herself, and know that you can do the same too. Also, coming from a beauty blogger who has tried numerous products, you now know which products to try next! P.S. Roanna’s favourite cereal is Alpha-Bits - It’s a giant box of cereal in alphabets with adorable sweet marshmallows! She loves trying to piece out her name with the letters. Unfortunately, the cereal is no longer retailing in Singapore. Do you remember Alpha-Bits & have you tried them?

“When we share our stories, what it does is, it opens up our hearts for other people to share their stories, and it gives us the sense that we are not alone on this journey.” This quote by Janine Shepherd encapsulates the heart behind the Cereal Boss Babe. We hope the stories shared here will serve as a source of inspiration for women from all walks of life, and a reminder that our lives are not that different after all.
