Skincare Essentials To Combat The Haze

It is the time of the year again where we experience really bad haze. The haze we’re greeted by when we step out of our homes almost makes it seem like we’re in Genting - only that we’re not and it is terribly hot and stuffy.

Not only is the haze detrimental to our health when we breathe in the particles, it is also extremely toxic to our skin. In moments like this, we definitely need to take better care of our skin and be more meticulous with our skincare regime.

1. Exfoliator

While most of us are used to exfoliating our skin once a week, if you have oily skin, you may want to consider exfoliating twice a week when there’s haze. Our pores are likely to trap the dirt in the air on our skin, especially so if we have an oily complexion.

We love the coffee scrub by Pillingbean, available for both body and face, in three different scents! It deeply exfoliates your skin and does not leave it dry and tacky. If you’d like to give it a try, they can be purchased at selected Guardian stores.

2. Defence Serum

Before you layer on your skincare products for the day, starting with a serum to be your first layer of defence is extremely important. One of our favourite serums that does a fantastic job is the Antipodes Blessing Anti-Pollution Light Face Serum. It is scientifically proven to inhibit oxidative stress by up to 52%, so you can be assured your skin will be protected from, as its name states, pollution.

The Antipodes Blessing Anti-Pollution Light Face Serum can be found in selected Guardian stores and Guardian Online.

3. Sunblock

Every single skincare regime recommendation you read out there emphasises the importance of sunblock, and we couldn't agree more. Due to the ingredients present in sunblock, our skin will not absorb any sunblock when applied. This leaves a thin film on our skin which serves to further block out pollution particles. This is also why we apply our sunblock after our skincare!

A huge favourite is the Aprilskin Sun Stick, retailing at Guardian stores and Guardian online. Easy to apply, super fuss free, clean and effective!

4. Mist

If you are one of those with sensitive skin or eczema, carrying a bottle of mist would come in handy. When there’s haze, our skin would be more irritable and you may find yourself with some patches of rash or your skin may be extremely dry. Our HG is the Aveve Thermal Spring Water, which is perfect for all skin types!

The Avene Thermal Spring Water can be found in Watsons and Guardian.
