Cheerio Christmas Day 4: The Cereal Writer
Bello! Yes, for day 4 of Cheerio Christmas, I thought it would be good to do a giveaway to thank all of you who came by this year, be it on our website of Instagram. It also felt like the right time to tell people more about who we are, what we do, and the whole reason behind The Cereal Writer.
I would be sharing a tinge of my own personal story - in the same way as all the lovely brands you’ve read about thus far (and will be reading in the coming days)! I’ve always enjoyed brand owners sharing their stories, and just thought that maybe there are some curious minds out there. So, here goes!
Q: Tell us more about your business and when you first launched!
A: The concept of The Cereal Writer actually started in early 2018, but it never really materialised in the way I envisioned it to be, until recently, in August 2019. It was a lot of trial and error, starting from a completely different concept, to finally arriving at this brand name, and the decision to do what I’m doing now.
Granted, this is still ever changing - being inspired to think of ways to go over and beyond each day. The Cereal Writer initially started off as a platform for my freelance content writing services. Given that I love doing content, I thought that my blog page should at least have a theme - thus the decision on women empowerment, and sharing of stories (something I really believe in, and enjoy reading personally).
Now, The Cereal Writer has branched out to provide consulting services to small brands on how they can market their brand better, with whatever resources they have, be it through marketing campaigns online, on Instagram, and even small PR gigs.
Q: What are the greatest joys and challenges running this business?
A: The greatest joy in running this is being able to work with lovely clients and brands. It is very enriching, being able to know what goes on behind-the-scenes for brands from different industries. I’ve also been blessed with clients, who became friends, and it is very inspiring working alongside #bossbabes who are always on the get-go.
The greatest challenge though, as a freelance, is ensuring you have a decent salary each month. This is not something people discuss openly very often, and most people have the perception that being a freelancer equates to being able to sleep in whenever, and have fancy brunches over work all the time. Fact is, it is a lot less glamorous than that! Nonetheless, this is also what brings joy when a pitch is well-loved by a client.
Q: How has 2019 been for your business, and what are you looking forward to in 2020?
A: 2019 has been great, given that it is the year where The Cereal Writer really changed and I started having a clearer understanding of where I want this brand to be. This year, we had the opportunity to work with many local, female-empowered brands - they may not be the biggest in the industry, but they all have a story to tell. I’m constantly inspired by these #bossbabes as I know it takes a lot of effort to run a small business, but their tenacity and positive outlook are infectious.
In 2020, I will be doing a lot more content that will be focused around empowering women and businesses! On top of the current lifestyle posts you see on our blog, we’ll also be hosting videos on IGTV where we’ll share tips and tricks on how to further your own business with content and PR. We’re also thinking of marketing packages to make marketing help superrrr affordable for all aspiring #bossbabes, starting from as low as $100.
In doing this - it also means in 2020 I will be (for the first time), showing all of you the face behind The Cereal Writer! It’s a little nerve-wrecking, but the timing feels about right. See you guys on 20th Jan (my birthday) - just thought it would be a great day to announce then!
That’s it for now folks, and I’ll definitely be sharing more with you in our series of IGTVs :)
In the meantime, head over to our Instagram and join our giveaway!
Xx Cereal Love,
